I am a big fan of light coverage bases for day to day wear. The downside of that is that most of the products I've tried have failed me big time. Let me count the ways:
1. way too oily on my oily-combo skin
2. too sheer to do anything for uneven skin tone
3. color match was always limited
4. did I mention WAY too oily?
Tinted moisturizers, BB creams, CC creams, etc, are on a big marketing kick right now. Personally, I think a lot of it is gimmicky and they essentially contain the same ingredients, meaning they all work in similar ways. Some companies are making their way through the whole alphabet so don't get sucked into the marketing and do your own research. I'll spare you the rant and continue with the review.
Now, I tried the original Dream BB from Maybelline and it was awful. I could literally wipe it off my face an hour after application. This one is different because it's geared towards blemish prone skin. I don't have full blown acne but my skin has been problematic since I returned from India (I'm thinking pollution was the culprit). To prevent future breakouts, I was interested to see how the 2% salicylic acid would work out for me.
I like the finish. It's very natural looking and blends easily. The coverage works for me because it's sheer but build-able to address any dark spots. It will even out your skin tone for that 'no make up' make up feel. It's oil-free and lightweight enough for everyday and that's exactly what I need it for. This will work on oily-combination skin who are blemish prone, but not necessarily for those who are extremely oily with acne. I use this in place of a moisturizer in the mornings and its kind of a one-step skincare and foundation all in one. The salicylic acid is a great addition to gently treat breakouts and stop new ones from coming to the surface and I've noticed clearer skin since I've been using it. I'm a fan of the easy to squeeze tube and to be able to travel with ease. I would repurchase this when I run out.
The longevity is debatable. After application, I use a setting powder and then again around lunch time, I know I have to blot away some of the shine. It will also start to separate around the nose and chin. The color match is just okay, too. It's a fairly neutral undertone but I've got a more yellow undertone; however the deep tint shows up too red on me. When I get a tan, I'm not sure if the med/deep I'm using now, will continue to match. There are only 5 shades to choose from but maybe I can mix and match them for a custom shade. Also, I'm kind of bummed it doesn't have an SPF. I use an SPF every day (and so should you!) and I think this could have been the best summer drugstore find of the year.
