Product Review // Mario Badescu Botanical Exfoliating Scrub

Ulta, $26
I've never met a Mario Badescu product I didn't like and it looks like the streak continues with their new face scrub--Botanical Exfoliating Scrub.  I like a good scrub in the shower a few times a week but what always turns me off are the micro-lacerations they cause--you know, those tiny cuts you don't know are there until you go to put on your toner or serum and it stings like a b****?  No one likes angry, red skin!

I think manual exfoliators should be gentle as possible while still removing dead skin cells (to unclog pores) and leave the skin looking brighter.  What I like about this scrub is that it's a gel formula so it doesn't strip my skin or leave it feeling tight.  It's also packed full of botanicals, like Green Tea, Aloe, Coconut--all nourishing ingredients I can feel good about putting on my face.  So even though I'm scrubbing my face, it's soothing any irritation (which can often happen with exfoliating).

The main exfoliator is finely ground Ecuadorian Ivory Palm seeds, suspended in the clear gel formula.  I will admit that I totally had to Google what the heck an Ecuadorian Ivory Palm seed looked like and it's actually a really innovative choice.  It's a natural and renewable source, most often used as a substitute for ivory.  It's gritty texture lends itself well for effectively sloughing away dead skin cells but miraculously, I haven't felt any stinging when I put on my toner afterwards.

All in all, fairly impressed with this little guy.  I almost wish they also sold this as a gentle gel cleanser, without the exfoliator, for everyday because it always leaves my skin feeling soft and well taken care of.  View full product details here.
